This chapter offers a selection of influential models of creativity that have been applied to dance, including Geneplore, evolutionary (Blind Variation and Selective Retention) and social and distributed theories. It outlines existing research applying these models to dance and categorises this research into several groupings:
- Unspoken Knowledges
- Support for Social Theories
- Wayne McGregor | Random Dance
- Perspectives from Somatics

This research was funded by a Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grant for “In the Dancer’s Mind: Creativity, Novelty, and the Imagination.”
