Inbreeding can lead to a loss of genetic diversity in a small population and may reduce the adaptive potential of the species. We are using a recently developed genome assembly and 50k single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array to measure inbreeding in a species of conservation concern, the hihi (stitchbird; Notiomystis cincta).
