This patent landscape snapshot is centred on insights relating to the field of plant derived bioactives for functional foods and beverages. Our scope covers the past 10 years on any naturally sourced plant extract, isolate or other bioactive from any plant material. For example, bioactives or extracts may include proteins or peptides, oligosaccharides, carbohydrates, polyphenols, or fatty acids to name just a few. Our search excludes the likes of recombinant or GM technologies, synthetics, and probiotics.

First, we give a high level overview of the last 10 years to give you a sense of the big picture trends. Then, we delve deeper into the last 18 months to analyse more recent patent activity, and two case study examples do demonstrate links and opportunities to High Value Nutrition’s four health pillars (immune, digestive, metabolic and infant health).

This report is intended to provide a short snapshot and preliminary insights into the patent activity for plant bioactive innovation. It should not be taken as specific IP advice nor be used to assess your freedom to operate or patent infringement. It is important to seek specific IP advice for your given situation.
