Unintentional injury is a leading cause of death for New Zealand children, and an important public health concern. This policy brief shares findings from the Growing Up in New Zealand longitudinal cohort study, related to injuries in the first 1000 days of life, household safety measures taken up by families, and what sources of safety information people used. It concludes with recommendations for policy and programmes in New Zealand.
