Neurotrophic growth factors (NF) have a wide range of promising biological functions, including improved recovery after spinal cord injury. Challenges in using NFs for tissue engineering include rapid degradation and off-target effects. Spatial-temporal-controlled, hydrogel-based NF delivery systems might help by protecting NFs and releasing NFs on demand.
