Challenges in using neurotrophic growth factors (NF) for tissue engineering include rapid degradation and off-target effects. Spatial-temporal-controlled, hydrogel-based NF delivery systems might help by protecting NF and releasing NF on demand. The results suggest that the hydrogel GelMA is suitable for the controlled delivery of NF.
