Subin Rahman: An implementation model to support transitional reconstruction in post-disaster shelter strategies for urban areas: an area-based approach
The forced displacement of people due to disasters have been a major situation of concern in the humanitarian shelter sector. After immediate relief measures, the affected communities often become confined to interim shelter solutions and into longer period of uncertainty or forced to live in permanent settings which does not consider their socio-economic and cultural contexts. With the rising incidents of natural disasters, this situation will eventually affect the recovery of communities. This research lies in the overarching field of post-disaster shelter recovery with focus on transitional sheltering. The research aims to build upon the existing body of knowledge of post- disaster shelters focusing on specific urban contexts where transitional approaches can be evolved to pave way towards effective implementation of reconstruction solutions for longer term and early recovery. By creating such a framework, the research expects to contribute to the larger coordinated efforts in post disaster shelter strategies.
