A recent paper gained widespread attention in the media, suggesting that black holes are the source of dark energy. They also presented observational evidence to support their proposal.
Here, I summarize the work I did with my collaborators, where we showed that this is unlikely to be the case. We arrive at this conclusion by examining the additional observational consequences that would arise if their claim were true. We find this to result in significant inconsistency with pre-existing astrophysical observations.
