My doctoral research title Understanding (Digital) Citizenship Practices of Women Activists in the Indian Diaspora lies at the intersection of several disciplines including media studies, politics, citizenship and nationalism studies, gender and sociology. Relying on a feminist ethnographical approach, this project used community engagement, virtual ethnography and semi-structured interviewing methods. The project provides a conceptual framework for understanding (digital) citizenship as a continuum ranging from legal status to transformative activism that challenges status quo. As such, their activism allows diasporic subjects to claim citizenship in their countries of origin/countries of residence.
