Sihan Wang: Towards the development of an assay for urinary uracil for prediction of severe 5-fluorouracil toxicity

Many cancer patients treated with 5-fluorouracil experience life-threatening toxicity due to an inherited enzyme deficiency. We are establishing an assay to pre-screen for this deficiency using urine samples. In the future this could help Oncologists identify who is at risk and choose a better dose of 5-fluorouracil for their patients.
