MicroCT imaging and traditional stereology of human placental villi or vasculature were compared for the first time. While both methods yielded similar results for villous surface architecture (P>0.99), microCT underestimated microvascular measurements (p≤0.0015) due to image processing limitations. Improved AI-processing of MicroCT datasets may enhance structural analysis in the future.
