Lauren Hemara: Using Psa to understand how pathogens evolve during host infection
Do plant pathogens require all their effectors to cause disease, or just a few? Effector proteins help pathogens invade hosts and suppress immunity. Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) is an emergent kiwifruit pathogen with many effectors, providing a unique opportunity to understand how host selection shapes pathogen evolution.
