Despite the important cosmetic, functional and psychosocial benefits of scleral shell wear, they are under-researched, and under-utilised in New Zealand. This survey-based study investigates the perspectives of eyecare clinicians on their clinical use. Findings from this survey are being used to direct ongoing clinical research, as part of the wider doctoral project, to develop evidence-based guidelines for shell fitting, cleaning, maintenance, and complication-free wear.
