This study was to investigate the effects of myrtle rust, a fungal disease caused by Austropuccinia psidii, on leaf photosynthesis of pōhutukawa seedling. The study was conducted in a glasshouse with two treatments (infected and control). Disease severity increased significantly over time. The photosynthetic rate was impaired in infected leaves relative to controls and the reductions in photosynthetic rates were proportional to disease severity.
