Elizabeth Leaning: "The Sky's Door is Opened for You": Aspects of Astronomy in the Ancient Egyptian Pyramid Texts

This thesis explores evidence of astronomical understanding in ancient Egypt’s Old Kingdom by reading a 3rd millenium BC religious text – the Pyramid Texts – through an archaeoastronomical lens. It begins to build a “textbook” of ancient Egyptian astronomy, and argues for its legitimacy as a valid scientific process.
