Fibre photometry is a powerful technique that measures neural activity in the brains of freely behaving animals. Despite the wide use of this tool, the lack of a structural protocol for its construction and interpretation of data has limited its application. I introduce a detailed protocol of a custom-made fibre photometry setup covering surgery, virus injection, data collection, and analysis.
