Cherry Sun: Term side-population trophoblasts can be maintained in culture and differentiated to mature trophoblast populations.
The ability to isolate trophoblast stem cells (TSC) from term human placentae is pivotal in our understanding of major pregnancy pathologies, but to date has proved challenging. Using a novel cell-sorting technique, we isolate TSCs directly from term placentae, giving us potential access to the full disease trajectory.
