This poster illustrates my research, which examines the crucial role of contemporary theatre in breaking the silence around domestic violence and evaluates the most effective ways in which victims’ stories can be told. Through close analysis of several plays, engagement with scholarly literature and applying my lived experience, I have ascertained what works effectively in terms of both victim healing and inspiring social change. Through this, it is hoped that awareness will be raised of this prevalent issue and the urgent need to make changes to our legal and social systems to better serve, support and protect victims. There is also potential for this research to be applied in ways that will assist victims in being heard and, therefore, taking steps towards healing.
