Martin Spasovski: A Multifaceted Approach

A difficult problem often requires the employment of many different strategies to be solved. Neutron diffraction experiments regularly requires large pristine single crystal samples. Growth of complex phases which do not melt congruently require more a more creative approach. Sometimes this is achieved by using a flux, however this often introduces impurity species which can critically influence a crystals physical properties. Here we have large single crystals of Cu3TeO6 grown using flux free methods. Lighting emphasises the faces formed during different stages of growth in a muffle furnace.
