The image depicts the context of my research topic on language maintenance. China, as a linguistically diverse nation, boasts over 290 languages spoken by the majority Han group and 55 minority groups (Li, 2006). Though the language policy in China recognizes the value of minority languages, we are at risk of losing them. Language is not just symbols and sounds; it represents the people who use them. The melting language in the sea indicates the unsure future of the people using it.
