Mingming Zhang: Where Research Meets Reality: My Sensor System on the Factory Floor.

<p dir="ltr">This image captures the exact moment where my doctoral research meets reality. In critical manufacturing industries, traditional post-weld inspections are often too slow and inefficient to meet modern demands. My research addresses this by developing a smart system that uses AI and sensor fusion for real-time welding quality detection.</p><p dir="ltr">Pictured is my custom-designed multi-sensor platform installed at a partner company, Spiraweld. This device is the core of my project, integrating an AI-driven vision system with other sensors to create a comprehensive, live picture of the welding process. By analyzing this fused data, the system can automatically identify defects like cracks or porosity as they occur.</p><p dir="ltr">This setup moves quality control from a manual, after-the-fact process to an automated, real-time solution, paving the way for more efficient and reliable industrial manufacturing</p>
