PhD candidate Louis Sartain spoke on his experience founding a diamond standard open access journal, platforming voices and shaking up the publishing status-quo.

In addition to being a PhD candidate at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland, Louis is also the Director of the Early Academics Society: International (EASI), and the founder of The International Journal of Interdisciplinary Research (IJIR) and The International Conference for Early Academics and Researchers (ICEAR). Alongside his PhD research, Louis’ journey as an early career researcher has been characterised by the building of community and interdisciplinary development opportunities within the postgraduate and early-researcher demographic, first at the University of Auckland, and now on a global scale.

Collaboration between disciplines and across cultures is at the forefront of Louis’ focus, and his home-discipline of Philosophy serves as an ideal launchpad for promoting transdisciplinary development. Louis has lectured in Epistemology and Metaphysics and specialises in the convergence of the philosophies of knowledge, reality and ethics.
