Description: This trial investigated the efficacy of 500 mg rutin, in a double blind randomised 3-arm placebo controlled parallel study over 6 months in male and female participants with demonstrated prediabetes (fasting plasma glucose: = 5.6-6.9mmol/L). Each participant consumed once daily either: yogurt control + capsule control OR yogurt with 500 mg rutin + capsule control OR capsule 500 mg rutin + yogurt control, as part of their breakfast meal or as a later snack.
No individual participant data will be made available for this trial.

Associated data: c-peptide/glucose ratio as indirect marker of Pancreatic β cell insulin secretion, fasting and postprandial plasma glucose, insulin and C-peptide
Secondary outcomes
- Biochemistry panel, full lipid profile, inflammatory cytokines and associated obesity-related biomarkers
- Plasma rutin
Associated data: HbA1c, cholesterol (total-C, LDL-C, HDL-C), triglyceride, liver function enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP, GGT), plasma rutin
Other outcome measures and associated data
- Gut microbiome
- Height
- Weight
- Waist and hip circumference
- Body composition - total fat and lean mass, measured by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA)
- Blood pressure
- Adverse events
- Dietary compliance via 4-day food records
